“Who am I?”

Part-time student, full-time clean energy enthusiast — Sustainable Econ & Info Science @ Cornell.

Hii, this is Mike

I’m a freshman at Cornell University (CALS), currently planning to double major in Information Science and Sustainable Economics.

I’m exploring how data can be applied to solve real-world sustainability challenges—especially in energy systems and green finance.

I’ve worked on field-based sustainability projects, from researching infrastructure systems to building data models that reveal environmental and economic patterns.

Projects and Work

“What I’m building”
From class projects to side experiments, here’s how I’m applying what I learn — sometimes successfully, sometimes with lots of coffee and debugging.

Cross-Disciplinary Rural Sustainability Research

Conducted field-based and economic analysis of 13 years of under-forest economies in rural Beijing, generating evidence-based policy proposals to expand sustainable income models to other villages.

Air Health Index Development

Processed 500+ days of pollutant data (PM2.5, PM10, SO₂, NO₂, O₃) to build a multi-pollutant health index, reducing fluctuation by 70% vs. AQI through statistical modeling.

Data-Driven Pond Rehabilitation Project

Led pond restoration (1,000+ sqm), combining quantitative analysis and multi-strategy interventions to cut nitrates by 84% and phosphorus by 85%, creating a scalable model for water governance.

When ESG Pays Off?

A Data-Driven Study in China’s A-Share Firms

I analyzed over 40,000 firm-year data points from China’s A-share market (2011–2023) to understand how changes in ESG ratings affect companies’ profitability and efficiency. Using Huazheng ESG scores, CSMAR financials, and panel regression models with interaction terms for industry, size, and ownership. The study provides data-driven insights into when ESG investments generate real financial value.

Café Collector

I’ve explored 80+ cafés in China, mostly just to stare at strangers and think about nothing.

Generated a 32% CAGR in A-share equity investments, with a peak return of 260% on a single stock.

Debator

After dozens of Public Forum debate wins, I’ve grown addicted to the rush of ideas in collision.
